It seems the contract tussle between Arsenal football club and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still on as the Gabon international has hinted that the club has not given him a new deal.
There have been lingering back and forth over whether the 31-year-old striker would stay at the club or not long before the end of the 2019-2020 Premier League season. The manager of the club, Mikel Arteta, has always said the Arsenal’s captain is willing to stay at the club and the striker has also shown willingness to stay in North London beyond June 2021 when his current contract will expire.
However, there are always reports that the Gabonese football star is still weighing his options as there are some couple of top European clubs that have shown interest in the services of the prolific striker.
In recent times, there have been reports that there is already a new deal on the table for the Gabon international. According to the reports, Arsenal are willing to offer their 31-year-old star a three-year deal which is reportedly worth £250,000-per-week.
This has been the good news that the fans of the club have been savoring until on Friday night when Aubameyang and his brother Willy were having an Instagram Live session. During the session, Arsenal’s fans who were following their conversation began to comment with paper and pen stickers which were a way to urge him to extend his contract with Arsenal.
In his reaction to the paper and pen stickers, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang said: “Everyone is showing the pen and paper but I still don’t have the papers bruv!”
When the striker felt that the statement had alarmed the fans that were hopeful that a new deal was already on the table for him to sign, he had to say that great news was around the corner to probably pacify them.
“Have a good night, enjoy and hopefully great news for everybody”, he said.
Push for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
It has not only been the fans of Arsenal football club that have been pushing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to sign a new contract, but some players and past stars of the club have also been pushing him to do the same.
When Arsenal signed former Chelsea winger Willian on a free transfer, the Brazilian used the first media chat he had after joining the club for a three-year deal to urge Aubameyang to extend his contract with Arsenal.
“I joined Arsenal because we can challenge for titles”, Willian told the Sun. “But Pierre will be a big part of the plan He has to stay – it is very important to me.”
Just on Friday, a former player and a legend of the club, Ian Wright, took to his varied Twitter handle to pose with a contract paper to remind the club and Aubameyang how lingering the negotiation for a new deal was becoming.
“Taking so long gonna sign da ting myself”, he wrote.

Indeed, Aubameyang is worth fighting for. Since he joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, he has established himself as the club’s talisman scoring 70 goals and providing 15 assists in 109 games. As it stands, it is just a matter of weeks before Arsenal’s fans would know whether their captain will stay with them beyond 2021 or not.
