Pep Guardiola admits Mikel Arteta has held talks with Arsenal over their open manager’s position.
The earlier report has it that Arteta is the lead candidate to replace Unai Emery at Emirates Stadium. He played for Gunners from 2011 to 2016 before taking up a role as assistant to Guardiola at Manchester City.
Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham is said to have met Arteta on Sunday. While Guardiola testifies that he was aware of the discussions between the two parties.
Man City, while preparing for the EFL Cup quarter-final with Oxford United, Guardiola let his testimony out: ”He’s talking with Arsenal so I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
The City boss vows that Arteta is an incredible person and a good manager having worked with him for some times. And will be traveling to Oxford with the team.
But Guardiola includes that he is happy with Arteta joining his former Club and also in the Premier League. He urges Arsenal to be quick on the decision.
Arsenal has won just one of their last 12 games across all competitions. With Ljungberg having overseen the last five matches on an interim basis after Emery’s dismissal.
Gunners are 10th on the table, with seven points off the top-four level and 17 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.
However, Freddie Ljungberg had just revealed that the east London club should quickly decide on the new manager. Following their 3-0 defeat by Guardiola’s City on Sunday at Emirates Stadium.
