Paris Saint Germain have requested for additional security at the team’s training ground and at the homes of Lionel Messi and Neymar following protests by angry supporters over recent results of the club.
Hundreds of PSG fans came together outside the headquarter of PSG on Wednesday evening where they set off smoke flares and sang hostile chants about players not delivering up to expectation.
The fans of the club don’t longer want players like Lionel Messi, Neymar and Italian long-serving midfielder Marco Verratti at the club.
Some of the fans, dressed in black, then proceeded to the home of Neymar which is located in a rich suburb west of Paris where they chanted “Neymar, get lost”.
PSG released a statement on Wednesday condemning the action of their fans. They stated:
“Paris Saint-Germain condemns in the strongest possible terms the unacceptable and insulting actions of a small group of individuals.
“Whatever the differences of opinion, nothing justifies such behavior.”
Brazilian attacker Neymar, who has faced lots of injury issues at PSG and is out for the remainder of the season, reacted by posting on Instagram: “Don’t let people put you in their storm. Put them in your peace.”
PSG decided to heighten security at its training ground and outside the homes of the players singled out by the protesters.
According to one of the sources, they said a section of the supporters had indicated “they wanted to do the same thing every evening.”
The protesters left “calmly, several minutes after their arrival” without any clashes with police who had come to intervene.
Argentine Lionel Messi’s future at the Parc Des Princes was put into uncertainty on Wednesday after he was banned for two weeks for visiting Saudi Arabia to fulfill a contractual obligation without the permission of the club.
The contract of the former Barcelona man expires at the end of the campaign, with several teams including Barcelona supposedly interested in acquiring him.
Lionel Messi featured for the entire duration of the game in PSG’s 3-1 home loss by Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has been booed several times this season and last season most recently during PSG’s 1-0 league loss to Lyon in April.

Fans of Paris Saint-Germain are angry with the hierarchy of the French Capital club as they feel the Qatari Sport Investment group are focused on the acquisition of star names over grooming a really competitive side.
Lionel Messi has netted 20 goals across all competitions this campaign and is the top assist provider in the top-flight league in France with 15 assists provided.
But the 35-year-old’s form since guiding Argentina to a World Cup triumph in Qatar has dropped rapidly along with that of the majority of the PSG side.
Paris Saint-Germain’s watery performance against 10th placed Lorient resulted in a sixth defeat so far in 17 Ligue 1 matches in 2023.
It was the ninth defeat in all competitions so far I’m 2023, more than the entire losses recorded by the French side in 2022.
Paris Saint Germain remain five points ahead of Marseille at the summit of the Ligue 1 with five games left to play.
