Paris Saint Germain have announced the appointment of former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique as their new manager.

This announcement is coming after the Parisians confirmed the dismissal of Christophe Galtier after a season in charge of the club.

Luis Enrique has been without a coaching job since he departed Spain after their round of 16 loss to Morocco in Qatar.

This is his first club managerial job since he left Barcelona in May 2017, following remarkable years of success.

The man who has previously managed in Spain and Italy expressed how excited he was regarding the new project.

He said: “It’s so exciting to meet new people, to live in this city, to learn a new language and, above all, to manage PSG.”

His arrival to Paris Saint Germain finally ends rumors of a possible move to other European clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea were also reportedly interested in acquiring the services of the 53-year-old tactician but nothing tangible came out from the speculations.

Luis Enrique has been handed a two-year deal at PSG as he replaces embattled Christophe Galtier.

What did Christophe Galtier win at Paris Saint Germain

Galtier won the Ligue 1 titles and Trophée des Champions in his one-season stay at the Parc Des Princes.

The Frenchman was successful on the domestic front but his time at the club will in customary fashion be judged by his performances on the continent.

Due to this, he was dismissed and a man who has won the UEFA Champions League in the past has been appointed.

Luis Enrique won the Champions League alongside the La Liga title and Copa Del Rey during his time at Barcelona.

Confirming his arrival to the club, PSG put out a club statement which reads: “Paris St Germain is pleased to announce the appointment of Luis Enrique as head coach of the professional team.

“The Spanish coach has signed a two-year contract.”

Luis Enrique is the fourth managerial appointment at the Parc Des Princes in little over five years after Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Galtier.

The Spaniard will be saddled with a lot of responsibilities, including taking the club to Champions League success.

He might be facing the possibility of a depleted squad next season following the exit of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos.

Luis Enrique will be tasked with winning the UEFA Champions League

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are also said to be eyeing a move away from the French capital.

Seeing Manchester City win the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League title, definitely would have sparked optimism in the club that they can also achieve the same feat.

Paris Saint Germain’s closest chance at winning the UEFA Champions League was in the 2019/20 season, albeit losing the final to Bayern Munich by a lone goal scored by ex-Parisian Kingsley Coleman.
