Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi said on June 5, 2023, that Kylian Mbappe is not leaving the club for free as a result of the French winger’s uncertainty over his future.

President Al-Khelaifi said, “My position is very clear. I don’t want to repeat it every time: If Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract.”

“We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free; we can’t do that. This is a French club.”

“He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it’s not my fault. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free; that’s very clear.”

Kylian Mbappe sent a letter to Paris Saint-Germain executives stating he has no intention of extending his contract after it ends on June 30, 2024.

The French winger maintained he doesn’t want to leave this summer. He wants to fight for any silverware available for next season.

He is hoping for a better season especially after the arrival of a new manager, Luis Enrique.

He clarified that he had not told the club to allow him to move to Real Madrid, who tried to tempt him away in 2021 before he signed a new deal with PSG in 2022.

Kylian Mbappe also claimed that the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, does not have any influence on his career, as the President said he will do everything possible to make sure Mbappe stays at Paris Saint-Germain.

The club face the consequences of losing the player for free if they fail to find a football club ready to pay his asking price this summer.

There are bigger chances that the club wouldn’t recoup the 180 million euros ($195.71 million) they spent on him while he was at Monaco.

The new Paris Saint Germain manager, Luis Enrique, also made a statement on Kylian Mbappe’s future, saying, “When I signed, we always remained open. A lot of things can happen.

“I will keep it private as it’s professional secrecy. I cannot give confidence, but we will try to make the best possible squad for PSG”.
