Arsenal player Pablo Mari says he is lucky to be alive after a man who is said to be mentally challenged stabbed him on Thursday, October 27, 2022.
On his recovering bed, Mari claimed he witnessed the death of a person during the incident.
The superstar was shopping with his wife Veronica Chacon and children when the incident happened.
It was confirmed that the supermarket employee was killed, and five other people also suffered different degrees of injuries from the mass stabbing.
The suspect is said to be 46 years old and has been detained by the security officials who feel the incident was not terrorism.
The 29-year-old centre back revealed he was stabbed from the back and was also punched before seeing the mentally depressed man kill a person by stabbing her in the throat.
Pablo Mari, who is now being treated in the hospital, will have surgery on Friday to lessen muscular damage caused by a laceration to his back.
Despite the knife being closer to his lungs, he was spared due to his height. Mari secured his son in the cart which helped to keep him safe during the attack.
Monza CEO Adriano Galliani told the reporters that Mari is recovering and wants to get back to training and first team matches from Monday.
Monza CEO Galliani also informed the press that they have asked the Italian FA to postpone their Serie A match against Bologna on October 31, 2022.
Also, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told the press after Arsenal’s defeat by PSV that Mari seems to be OK. Arteta also knows that Arsenal technical director Edu has made contacts with the footballer’s relatives to check up on him.
The London side are seriously in contact with the player manager, who told them Mari is in the hospital but he is not seriously injured.
In addition the father, who nearly had a heart attack, told the press that he watched it on TV about the incident and was receiving calls from friends and relatives who were concerned about the issue.
However, Former Napoli and Inter Milan player Massimo Tarantino was among those who disarmed the attacker and made sure he was not able to continue with the attack on the other shoppers.
The defender joined Monza on loan from Arsenal, where he had played eight matches, scored a goal and received two yellow cards.
Pablo Mari also spent last season on loan at Udinese, where he played 15 matches, scored two goals and received two yellow cards.
