A winless streak in football is not what a manager would want for his team. Even the fans and players want to win a lot of games.
The fans of those teams with the longest winless streak have endured horrible performances from their respective clubs and national teams.
These are the nine teams with the longest winless streak in football history.
1. San Marino (140 games)
The first on the list of teams with the longest winless run in football history is the San Marino national team.
They ended the winless run against Liechtenstein on September 5, 2024, in the UEFA Nations League. The narrow win sent joy to the fans, the coaching staff, and the players who were already accustomed to losing.
2. Derby County (32 games)
The Championship team, Derby County, got promoted into the Premier League in the 2007/08 season.
It was a horrible season for the Rams, who were in 20th place on the Premier League table coupled with just 11 points. They failed to win 32 matches in all club competitions.
The Rams won a game and drew eight matches in the Premier League.
They tried to return in the 2018-19 season under Frank Lampard, but they were beaten in the promotion play-off against Aston Villa.
3. Ancona (28 games)
Another team that had 28 winless runs is Ancona. The team got relegated in the 2002-03 season to the Serie B.
4. Almeria (28 games)
UD Almeria failed to win 28 matches in the Spanish Top Tier Division.
The losing streak started in the 2022-23 season, where the Almeria team survived relegation with just a point above the relegation zone.
In the 2023-24 Spanish La Liga season, UD Almeria got relegated to the Spanish Second division after they lost 23 times.
5. Perugia (27 games)
The Perugia Football Club failed to secure a win in 27 games across two seasons in all club competitions.
In the 2002-03 season, Perugia finished in the 10th on the Serie A table, but they failed to win their last five matches in the league.
They qualified for the Serie A relegation play-off, where they got eliminated by Brescia. They eventually got relegation to the Serie B in the 2003-04 season.
Perugia failed to win 22 matches in the 2003-04 season.
6. Hellas Verona (24 games)
Another team on the list is Italian side Hellas Verona, who played 24 matches without securing a single win in the Serie A
This winless streak started in the 2014-15 season of the Italian Serie A, where the club failed to win their last two matches.
However, the team finished in 13th place on the table and were safe from relegation in the 2014-15 season.
Hellas Verona failed to win 22 matches in the 2015-16 season. During this winless run, the Italian Club had 11 draws in the Serie A.
7. Kaiserslautern (21 games)
In the 2011-12 Bundesliga season, Kaiserslautern failed to win 21 games in a row. They ended the season with four wins in 34 matches in the German League.
Because of their horrible performance, Kaiserslautern got relegated into the second-tier division of the German League.
8. Schalke O4 (21 games)
In the 2010-11 Bundesliga season, Schalke O4 played 21 games without securing a single win in all club competitions.
After their poor 2010-11 season, the team found themselves at the 14th place of the German Bundesliga table.
9. Norwich (20 games)
In the 2019-2020 and 2021-22 Premier League seasons, Norwich had a winless run of 20 games under the management of Daniel Farke.
In the 2019-20 season, they failed to win 10 matches in a row. The horrible form was carried into the 2021-22 season. During their winless form, the Canarries were heavily defeated 7-0 by Chelsea.
