Neymar wants to play Argentina in the final of the Copa America on July 11. The Brazilian winger who said this after helping Brazil to defeat Peru 1-0 in the semi-finals of the tournament in the early hours of today, July 6, 2021, said he wants Argentina to make it to the final because he has friends in the Argentine team.
Neymar has been instrumental for Brazil since Copa America started. He has played 5 games out of six games so far in the tournament.
His dribbling ability has helped him to provide three assists and score two goals in five games. He provided the assist that helped Brazil to win against Peru in the semi-final stage of the ongoing competition.
When it was looking like the game was about to drag into extra time, Neymar brought his creativity to the table and dribbled his way into Peru’s box-eighteen before he passed the ball to Lucas Paqueta who scored the only goal of the match.

As it stands, Brazil who are the host of this year’s edition of Copa America will face either Argentina or Columbia in the final of the tournament. Argentina and Columbia will face each other on Wednesday morning in the tournament’s second semi-final game.
If Argentina who have been having a smooth tournament maintain their form and scale through Columbia on Wednesday, the world of football would see Lionel Messi and Ángel Di María go against Neymar in the final.
Recall that Lionel Messi and Neymar played together at FC Barcelona between 2013 and 2017 before the 29-year-old left-winger left the Spanish club to play for Paris Saint Germain for a world transfer record worth £199.80 million.
Since then, Neymar and Messi have been keeping in touch with each other and there have been speculations that they wanted to reunite at either Barcelona or PSG. As it stands, it is not likely that the two players would reunite at Barcelona, it is most likely that they might reunite at PSG if Messi fail to extend his contract with Barca.
Aside from Messi, Ángel Di María is Neymar’s long-time friend. The two football stars have been playing together at PSG since 2017. Hence, the Brazilian football star said he would cheer Argentina to the final of Copa America.
“I want Argentina, I am cheering them on,” Neymar said. “I have friends there and in final Brazil will win.”
Neymar is expected to lead Brazil to win their 10th Copa America and the second in a row on their home soil. While Lionel Messi is expected to win his first major title with Argentina using the ongoing tournament.
For Messi to win Copa America for the first time in his illustrious career, he has to go through Columbia and then through Brazil on July 11.
