Mason Greenwood trains alone at the training camp of Manchester United after he was caught with Icelandic girls while in national team duty with England.
Recall that the 18-year-old England international had his first opportunity to represent his country at the senior level when the Three Lions faced Iceland on September 5. Hours after the European Nations League match which England won 1-0, Mason alongside his England’s teammate and Manchester City’s star Phil Foden broke the team’s protocol by bringing in two Icelandic girls to the hotel and had fun with them.
The incident was exposed on Monday and left the manager of England national team Gareth Southgate with no choice than to send them packing ahead of their visit to Denmark on September 8 which ended 0-0.
Though Manchester United had issued a statement to lambast Mason Greenwood, he was not slammed with any official ban and he is likely to play against Crystal Palace in the club’s Premier League opener on September 19.
However, England forward had to train alone ahead of the league opener because he had to undertake two COVID-19 tests and he will remain separated from the rest of the team pending the outcome of the test. If the test returns negative, he will rejoin the team.
The latest updates on the incident hold that the manager of Manchester United Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has planned a meeting between him and Mason Greenwood over the Iceland’s saga and it is not likely that the teenage star would receive further punishment from the club.
Mason Greenwood trains Alone saga midst with inhaling hippy crack
Besides the fact that Mason Greenwood had to be forced to train alone for breaching England’s national team protocol and having fun with Icelandic girls during national team duties, he has landed in a fresh controversy. Viral pictures showed him inhaling ‘hippy crack’. The hard drug is also known as nitrous oxide and referred to as laughing gas by some people.
Based on Medical research, the hard-drug Mason Greenwood reportedly inhaled has high health risks which could include brain damage and heart attack. Besides that, ‘hippy crack’ has the potential to cause memory loss and lead to vitamin deficiency.
In a video in the possession of The Sun, Greenwood was allegedly filmed wearing a hat, T-shirt, and shorts while sniffing the crack from a balloon. A young lady was said to be in his Manchester apartment when he was carrying out the act.
“Mason often goes to the apartment after nights out and likes to have a good time”, a source told The Sun. “But he should know better given he’s a top sportsman.
“He has been a bit silly doing it and especially allowing it to be videoed.
“A lot of people around Manchester are doing it at parties — quite a lot are Mason’s age.”
This incident reportedly happened weeks before he traveled with England national team to Iceland. As at last check, Manchester United nor the player was yet to react to the new development.
