Mason Greenwood is expected to remain more than a month in jail after a district court remanded him in custody due to a violation of his bail terms.
The pre-trial preparation hearing for the Manchester United forward’s case will take place in Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court on November 21.
The 21-year-old confirmed his identity, date of birth, and address while sporting a grey Nike hoodie and a white T-shirt before his lawyer, David Toal, requested bail.
Greenwood is accused of three offenses, each involving the same claimed victim:
- Attempting to rape a woman on October 22, 2021
- Engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour between November 1, 2018 and October 15, 2022.
- Assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm between December 12 and 31, 2021
After it was claimed that Greenwood had violated his bail terms by getting in touch with the alleged victim, he was detained once more on Saturday. He was imprisoned on Saturday and Sunday night while he awaited his court appearance on Monday morning.
On Saturday, Janet Potter, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS North West, announced that Mason Greenwood, 21, would be charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm.
“All three counts relate to the same complainant. Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West’s complex casework unit authorized the charges following a review of a file of evidence received from Greater Manchester Police”, Potter said.
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice those proceedings.”
Greenwood’s last appearance came in a Premier League victory over West Ham United on January 22. He is still on United’s suspension list “pending the outcome of the judicial process,” and the club has previously stated that he is receiving his salary, which is in the neighborhood of £75,000 per week, in full despite the suspension.
Greenwood Rearrested For Breaching Bail Condition
Greenwood was detained when it was believed that he had broken his bail terms.
After being detained on suspicion of assault, rape, and making threats of harm to himself, Mason Greenwood, 21, was given bail.
Mason Greenwood allegedly made contact with his claimed victim, which is considered a violation of the bail term, and was subsequently rearrested.
After being detained by police in his property costing £15,000 per month, the troubled Manchester United and Premier League forward is reportedly undergoing severe questioning at this time.
GMP’s spokesperson stated: “Greater Manchester Police are aware of an allegation regarding a 21-year-old man breaching his bail conditions and an arrest has been made on Saturday 15 October 2022.
“Enquiries are ongoing at this time.”
Since January of this year, Mason Greenwood has been in and out police detention while he awaited the outcome of the ongoing legal battle.
The youngster was reportedly taken away by the police from his house in Bowdon, Greater Manchester, and held for three nights.
