February was a month that Manchester United were rewarded for their efforts as Erik Ten Hag and Marcus Rashford won the manager and player of the month award respectively.
Ten Hag was honored following Manchester United’s unbeaten run in the Premier League throughout the month of February.
Rashford took home the award for the second month in a row and the third time this season as he was given the player of the month award for the month of September in 2022.
The Englishman scored 5 goals in the four games he featured for Manchester United throughout the month of February and he was instrumental to the club’s comfortable stay in the top 4.
Dutchman Erik Ten Hag subdued two other challengers for the award as Fulham manager, Marco Silva and Tottenham Hotspur gaffer, Antonio Conte were also nominated.
How Ten Hag’s Red Army fared in the month of February
In the dying embers of the month of February, Marcus Rashford was among the players under Erik Ten Hag which defeated Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final at Wembley.
The 25-year-old also galvanized the comeback of Manchester United in their UEFA Europa League round of 32 play-off at Camp Nou.
The Manchester based club then completed the job at Old Trafford defeating Barcelona by 2-1 via goals from Fred and Anthony to qualify for the round of 16.
In that period of time, Manchester United picked up a victory over Crystal Palace, got a point against The Peacocks prior to defeating them at Elland Road.
They also smashed Leicester City by 3-0 on the 19th of February at Old Trafford through a brace from Marcus Rashford and an additional goal from Jadon Sancho.
Rashford after receiving the award in an interview with the website of Manchester United said: “It’s obviously always good to be amongst the conversations.
“To be awarded this Player of Month, I feel like especially in the last three months, you could give it to anyone.
“Any of the people that have been voted deserve to win it, it obviously makes me feel really proud that I have managed to do it three times.
“All the players that have been up for it, even some of the ones that haven’t been up for it deserve it.
“It shows that, as a team, we are improving and, hopefully, we can continue doing that.”
When he was questioned on his significant moment from the month of February, Rashford stated that it was “Probably the Nou Camp.”
He said: “Last time I played there away, I felt like there were chances in the game, but I just didn’t take any of the chances.
“We didn’t create enough of the chances that I thought were there in the game.
“They ended up beating us 3-0 that night and it was on my mind this time to go back there and make sure we create chances, and we try to convert them.”
Marcus Rashford has now scored 26 goals in all competitions
Rashford extended his goal tally this season to 26 goals across all competitions when he took Manchester United into the lead against Real Betis in their 4-1 win over the Spanish side.
Based on that goal, he became the third player in Europe with the most goals scored so far this season behind Kylian Mbappe of PSG and Erling Haaland of Manchester City.
David De Gea also won the save of the month award for his save against Leicester City as he palmed Kelechi Iheanacho’s brilliant header away.
