Marco Reus’ last match for Borussia Dortmund will be in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League final.

This comes after the 34-year-old German midfielder announced on X on Friday, May 3 that he will be leaving Dortmund as a free agent in the summer after spending 12 years at the club.

Dortmund eliminated PSG from the Champions League at the semi-final stage on Tuesday, May 7 as Mats Hummels’s goal earned Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 victory at the Parc de Princes to send them through 2-0 on aggregate.

Marco Reus who awaits the winner of the Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich match, now has the chance to win Europe’s biggest club title in his final season with Dortmund.

After joining Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012, the 34-year-old midfielder decided to leave the club at the end of the season.

Reus has announced that he will not be renewing his contract with the club, which will expire at the end of June, making him a free agent from July onwards.

In a message to the fans, he expressed his gratitude for the 12 years he has spent playing in the stadium and dedicated half of his life to the club.

He acknowledged that the farewell at the end of the season will be tough, but emphasized the importance of focusing on the remaining games and achieving their goal of winning the Champions League trophy.

Reus further added: “I know the farewell at the end of the season will be tough, but I’m glad there’s now clarity and we can now focus fully on the so important final games. We have a big goal ahead of us that we want to achieve together. We want to get to Wembley. We want to bring the Champions League trophy back to Dortmund.”
