Recall Manuel Diaz was kidnapped alongside his wife and Luis Diaz’s mum, Cilenis Marulanda, but the latter has regained her freedom while Manuel Diaz is still in custody of the hoodlums.

A radical left-wing insurgent group, National Liberation Army, ELN, have been identified as the hoodlums who orchestrated the attack and whisked off the parents of the Liverpool star.

They have been in decades of war against the Colombian state and have been branded as terrorist organization by Western powers.

They recently declared a ceasefire with the Colombian state but relations have now been soiled again after the kidnap incident.

    President Gustavo Petro

Speaking from Washington during an official visit to the US, Mr Petro said: ‘The ELN’s authorship means the ELN today is responsible for the life of the father of Luis Diaz.

‘It has committed an act that contravenes the peace process.

‘I have to express my most profound rejection, not only for having kidnapped Luis’ dad, but because in the ensuing developments, they have not been able to free him.

‘There is an expressed wish on the part of the ELN leaders to free him as soon as possible.

‘But the hours are passing, and as this goes on in time, the situation in which Mr Diaz is in becomes very dangerous.

Petro had assured Luis Diaz the Colombian government will do everything possible to rescue his Dad.

We reported earlier Luis Diaz has returned to Liverpool training after the incident but Jurgen Klopp has admitted he will allow the youngster determine when he will be available for the team.
