Manchester United’s injury crises have deepened with three top players ruled out of their respective national teams for the ongoing October international break.
Recall the Manchester-based outfit battled with a grinding injury crisis last season. All United outfield players were sidelined at least once except Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho.
Worse-hit players like Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, and Luke Shaw suffered multiple blows and struggled on and off the sidelines. Former Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia missed the entirety of last season with a knee injury.
Away from the injury-plagued campaign last term, United fans must have hoped for a fresh start this season devoid of the nightmares. However, it appears the gloom is far from over.
The club’s new signing from Lille Leny Yoro is sweating with muscle injury and has been sidelined for weeks. Mason Mount is also grappling with injury. Luke Shaw has yet to record a single appearance for the club due to injury.
Three more players added to Manchester United’s injury list
Deepening the injury crisis at Old Trafford, three key players in the squad will miss action for their respective national teams in the October international break.
Fast-rising youngster Kobbie Mainoo leads the list. According to Fabrizio Romano, Kobbie Mainoo, who was expected to make Lee Carsley’s England squad for October UEFA Nations League fixtures, has pulled out of the team due to injury.
Since his breakout 2023-24 campaign, Mainoo has been a cog in Erik ten Hag’s Man United squad. He has featured in the club’s all seven Premier League matches this season and was expected to continue his fairytale rise.
He missed Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League after pulling up with a hamstring issue in the 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham.
However, he was back in the squad and featured in the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa but could only manage to play for 85 minutes before being subbed off. More updates from the United medical department are still awaited on the injury but it has been confirmed that he is out of England squad for October break.
Nassour Mazraoui joins Manchester United’s injury list
Manchester United’s new signing from Bayern Munich Noussair Mazraoui also makes the three-man list. Noussair Mazraoui has cemented his place in Erik ten Hag’s United defence after joining from Bayern. He has featured in the club’s seven matches this season. The Morocco international was forced off the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa at halftime with an undisclosed injury. He has now pulled out of the Morocco squad for October international fixtures, per Fabrizio Romano.
Alejandro Garnacho also grappling with an injury
Alejandro Garnacho completes the three-man list. The Argentine youngster, who has also played in United’s all seven matches this season with a goal and an assist, reportedly picked up a knee injury in the Aston Villa match. He has however allayed fears of a lengthy injury layoff by revealing on his social media that he will be fit to join the Selecao in their next schedule in November.
“I had knee problems in the last two games and I won’t be able to be with the national team. But I hope to recover so I can be on the next date,” he wrote on social media.
Manchester United’s injury crisis: Harry Maguire also sidelined
Mainoo, Garnacho, and Mazraoui are not the only latest injury concerns for Man United. Harry Maguire also picked up a grim knee injury in the Aston Villa match with fans awaiting further updates on the blow.
Manchester United will hope to have these players return to fitness ahead of their next fixture against Brentford on Saturday, October 19, 2024, after the international break
