In the aftermath of yesterday’s defeat, Manchester United player Nemanja Matic took aim at Arsenal fans. After suffering

Their fourth away Premier League defeat in a row, and after being replaced in the 77th minute by Marcus Rashford, Serbian midfielder Matic responded to heckles from close-by home supporters on the bench. Matic pointed at himself, raised three fingers, and then gestured at the supporters while forming a zero with his fingers.

The 33-year-old won two Premier League titles with Chelsea, as well as a Primeira Liga triumph with Benfica in Portugal in 2013-14.

Arsenal has not won a league title throughout that time, with their last success in the Premier League coming in the famed 2003-04 Invincibles season.

The 33-year-old player was insulted by Arsenal fans after taking his position in the away dugout, who appeared to mock him over the result.

The 33-year-old then pointed to himself and extended three fingers to the home crowd before forming a zero gesture. He appeared to be telling the audience that they had no titles in comparison to his three. During his time at Stamford Bridge, Matic won two Premier League titles with Chelsea and the Portuguese league with Benfica.

Matic was behaving similarly to his former boss, Jose Mourinho. Mourinho retaliated against Chelsea fans in 2018 with a three-fingered gesture as they attacked him following Manchester United’s 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal took the lead in the third minute through Nuno Tavares, and Bukayo Saka made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute from the penalty spot.

After that, Ronaldo scored before Granit Xhaka’s thunderbolt sealed the Gunners’ victory. Following the loss, United is currently six points behind Mikel Arteta’s side, and Champions League qualification appears to be out of reach.

Matic, who joined United from Chelsea for £40 million in 2017, has stated that he will depart Old Trafford in the summer.

After much deliberation, I have decided that this will be my final season with Manchester United, “he announced on social media.”

My decision has been communicated to the board, the manager, and the players. It has been a tremendous honor and a joy to play for such a prestigious club. Thank you so much to the fans for your everlasting support.

“From now until the end of the season, I’ll do everything I can to help my teammates finish as strong as possible.”
