On the balance of play, the Saints will believe they deserved a point. They may have easily received a penalty as well. Bruno Fernandes completed a nice team play to give United a wonderful goal, and they defended resolutely.

The surrender to Brentford seems like a lifetime ago; in just two weeks, Manchester United went from ridiculous to determined.

United have now won its last two Premier League games in a row after dominating Liverpool on Monday and cruising to a one-nil victory on Saturday.

Southampton dominated the game’s final 30 minutes and put pressure on Manchester United, but it wasn’t enough to at least get a draw.

Adams spins away from Martinez in a tight area in the United box in the 39th minute.

On the right side of the six-yard box, he had some room. However, he regressed and could not make a good connection.

His effort ended up becoming an easy claim for goalkeeper De Gea as Adams’ shot-cum-cross dribbled apologetically over the face of the six-yard box. Saints returned immediately, though, and Adams’ lash from the edge of the box was superior to the former. It however, sailed over the bar.

In the first half, Fernandes missed a close-range opportunity, but in the 55th minute, he made up for it.

In the build up to the goal, Sancho passed the ball to Dalot down the right, where he cuts back hard and low for Fernandes, who met it first time and sweeps beautifully from the edge of the box into the bottom left.

It was a thrilling finish, and the pairing of Dalot and Fernandes had a faint Beckham-Scholes vibe to it.

Ward-Prowse nearly immediately gave the Saints a response by seizing control in the center circle and sending Djenepo off to the left.

He moved aside for Armstrong, who won a corner. Ward-Prowse attempted to retake possession but Adams could only hook the ball high into the air.

In the 59th minute, deep within United territory on the left, Dalot produced a terrible pass out of the back that resulted in a throw by the Saints. Tossing it into the mixer was Salisu.

As the ball continued to bounce about, Adams yelled that McTominay had been unfairly handed the ball. Although the referee showed no interest, VAR checked as the game progressed and decided not to give the penalty.

Casemiro came in to make his United debut. Erik ten Hag tried to hang onto what he had, so he swapped out Elanga for him.

Ronaldo instantly got going and started romping down the inside-right channel with the intention of hitting the Saints box as soon as he got there.

But Kotchap approached and gently nudged him away from the ball and watched it go out for a goal kick.

Despite Southampton’s perseverance, nothing happened, and Erik ten Hag’s brand-new Manchester United picked up another three points. They end their seven-game losing streak on the away. It ended 1-0 in favor of United at St. Mary’s Stadium.
