Manchester United legend, Edwin van der Sar, the chief executive officer of AFC Ajax, has extended his contract with the Dutch club amid interest from Chelsea.

Van der Sar joined Ajax after earning his degree from VV Noordwijk’s academy. He quickly earned a spot in the starting lineup and became known as Ajax’s top goalie during their heyday.

As a goalkeeper then, he was crucial to Ajax’s run to the Champions League final.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper started his senior playing career with Ajax in the early 1990s before joining the Red Devils where he became famous in 2005.

Van der Sar, now the CEO of Ajax, turned down the opportunity to relocate to England before agreeing on a two-year contract extension with the Dutch champions that would last until 2025.

We intend to participate in the redesigned Champions League each year starting in 2024 when the format of the European competitions will change. I want to continue contributing to that process since that journey is not yet finished.

“I get to work with energized coworkers who want to keep setting higher standards every day. not only in the workplace, but also with the Ajax Women, the youth academy, and the first team.

“The stadium is consistently full, and sales of various Ajax jerseys to young and old, both domestically and internationally, have increased dramatically.

“We appreciate the support of both our home and away fans. Enough justifications exist for me to continue investing my heart and soul in this club in the years to come.”
