The CEO of Inter Milan Beppe Marotta has revealed that Manchester United are Interested in signing Cameroonian shot-stopper Andre Onana from the club this summer.

Erik Ten Hag has made the acquisition of a goalkeeper a priority for the Old Trafford club this summer, having completed the signing of Mason Mount on the 29th of June, 2023.

Manchester United ended their ties with long-term goalkeeper David De Gea on the 30th of June 2023, a relationship that lasted for 12 years.

The Red Devils might re-sign the Spaniard or they might result to signing a new goalie to fill in the void.

For the 20-time English first division champions, finding an antidote to their goalkeeping crisis is paramount to them.

According to reports, Erik Ten Hag apparently blocked third choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton from joining Luton on Thursday.

The Dutch manager denied Heaton from moving due to the possibility of commencing the upcoming season with only one fully-fit shot-stopper.

England International Dean Henderson is still in the treatment room as he continues to recuperate from a troubling thigh injury.

Anyway, from all indications, it appears the Nerazzurri could be content with letting go of their number one goalie.

Beppe Marotta confirmed that the 2023 Coppa Italia champions are only waiting for a bid from Manchester United.

The 66-year-old said: “Manchester United expressed a particular interest, but that needs to blossom into making a proposal over the next few days.”

He added that when that stage is done, Inter and Andre Onana will take “careful evaluation” of the proposal.

Marotta said: “Once that happens, both Inter and the player will make a careful evaluation.”

He also revealed that the club’s director, Piero Ausilio “is working on a deal” however, “there is still no official bid from United at this stage”.

Onana joined Inter Milan on a free transfer in the summer of 2022

Andre Onana put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal with Inter Milan last summer, joining the club on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract with Ajax.

Based on this, any lucrative sale of Andre Onana will come as a profit for the Italian side.

Representatives of Manchester United are said to have met with the Cameroonian’s agent Albert Botines to deliberate over the £50 million move.

This move is reportedly fuelled by Ten Hag’s desire to link up with his former goalkeeper at Ajax.

The 53-year-old is thought to be a massive admirer of Onana’s attributes, that includes impressive ball distribution, one aspect of the game which David De Gea has been a suspect over the years.

Erik Ten Hag also played an active role in the development of the player who rose to fame from the academy of Netherland giants Ajax.

David De Gea was expected to further his deal at Old Trafford with new terms which would have seen the 33-year-old take a massive slash on his salary.

However, just as he was about to put pen-to-paper on that deal, Manchester United withdrew the offer.

The Red Devils are also understood to be interested in Brentford’s David Raya and Anderlecht youngster Bart Verbruggen.

Anyway, Erik Ten Hag may have to eschew caution in the transfer window, given the club’s tight budget due to financial fair play rules.
