Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is likely to miss Sunday’s Premier League clash against League toppers Arsenal after missing Thursday’s training session.
The 27-year-old Frenchman was recently ruled out of the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace following a leg injury and manager Erik ten Hag said, after the match that he would need to be examined.
Meanwhile, Martial has been battling with injuries and was replaced by Antony at half-time in the clash against Manchester City last week.
However, there’s still time for the Frenchman to bounce back to his form since the match will take place tomorrow evening.
But the probability that Martial would miss out on the encounter, having not taken part in yesterday’s team training is very high.
Ten Hag could miss two of his crucial players as the 27-year-old French star could potentially join suspended Brazilian star Casemiro in missing out on the trip to the Emirate stadium.
Antony Martial has been battling with his fitness throughout this season and this is the fourth time he would be out on separate injuries.
If Martial couldn’t make the trip, which seems certain, United boss Ten Hag has two potential alternatives that he could deploy.
Wout Weghorst could be allowed to lead the line, similar to the recent trip to Crystal Palace.
Although Weghorst did not make any goal contribution in his debut against Palace, the Dutchman played a pivotal role in Bruno Fernandes’ goal by distracting two Crystal Palace center-backs via his movement in the box.
If Erik Ten Hag chooses not to start Wout Weghorst, the England International forward Marcus Rashford could play up front.
The 25-year-old Manchester United reigning forward scored two amazing goals on the counter-attack against Arsenal in their last encounter.
Marcus Rashford secured the 3-1 victory against the Gunners with his superb runs that helped netted a brace and will be hoping to replicate this feat when the teams meet in north London on Sunday, January 22.
Manchester United are currently eight points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, who have 47 points with a game in hand.
Tomorrow’s crucial match is a must-win for The Red Devils if they want to keep their slim hopes of winning the Premier League title alive.
Meanwhile, United have been impressive as they have been on a nine-game winning run before their 1-1 tie with Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
And Manchester United is the only team so far this season to beat Arsenal in the Premier League campaign.
Manchester United would be aiming to do the double over Mikel Arteta’s Gunners for the first time in five seasons at Emirate on Sunday.
The match will take place at Emirate Stadium tomorrow, January 22, with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 pm.
