Manchester City have released a short statement of 79 words after the club was charged with breaching financial regulations.
In the 79 words statement made by the club on Monday, Manchester City said they are surprised about the accusations of breaching the financial regulations.
The Charges covered Manchester City’s alleged illegal activities for over nine seasons, which is from 2009 to 2018. The Premier League started the investigation in December 2018.
An undisclosed independent body will now look into the findings of the Premier League about the Manchester City case.
The commission may issue punishment in the form of transfer window bans, payment of fines, point deduction or stripping them of the Premier League title.
However, Manchester City welcome the review of the Independent Commission to gather all the evidence they need to put the matter to bed once and for all.
The league said Manchester City breached the rules and the league body is compiling the club to provide accurate information that gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position.
The Premier League has also accused Manchester City of failing to help with investigations which was prompted following the publication of leaked documents.
Manchester City have not been found guilty yet even though they have been charged. If found guilty, the club wouldn’t be able to appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Manchester City could be expelled From The Premier League
Manchester City may be expelled from the Premier League if found guilty of the incident. Premier League legal chiefs believe that Manchester City are hiding their true sources of revenue.
The reigning Champions were accused of paying part of former manager Roberto Mancini’s salary through an Abu Dhabi shell company, but they are hiding the fact.
The club are also accused of not giving full details of their players’ wages. In February 2020, City suffered a penalty of a two-year ban and were fined £25 million.
Five months later, the ban was cut short to £9 million by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
It is going to be sad news for the English side, players and manager if they are found guilty. Pep Guardiola wants to fulfill his long-term ambition of winning the Champions League for the England side but if they are found guilty, that might be difficult.
Meanwhile, Guardiola had threatened to leave the club if they were accused of wrongdoing which he is not aware of. The Spanish manager made the claim in August 2022 after he was questioned about the club’s alleged breach of financial fair play rules.
In the other news, Arsenal fan Piers Morgan wants City to be slapped with a points reduction to give the Gunners the chance of winning the title by May 29, 2023.
