Manchester United target Tosin Aderabioyo has joined Chelsea from Fulham after he completed his medical with the club.
The former Fulham defender is set for a new chapter with Chelsea after leaving Fulham as a free agent. On Tuesday, June 5, the 26-year-old completed his Chelsea medical and is set to be announced by the club.
Adarabioyo will be expected to step into the shoes of former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva, who left the club this summer for Fluminense after his Chelsea contract expired.
New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is said to have played a big role in Chelsea’s move for Aderabioyo having worked with the player while he was nursing his career in Manchester City academy.
Daily Mail notes Manchester United were strongly in the race to sign Tosin Aderabioyo before they were overtaken by Chelsea.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was planning to sign Tosin Aderabioyo to beef up United’s defence that has been battling niggling injury crisis.
While United had expressed interest in the 26-year-old, Chelsea were said to have been a step further and had presented an offer to the player.
Aderabioyo left Fulham after his contract with the club expired. He is set for a new chapter with the Blues after an average campaign with the Cottagers.
According to reports, United later offered Aderabioyo a contract but the player had already agreed terms with Chelsea.
Aderabioyo graduated from Manchester City Academy and was promoted to the first team in 2016 but failed to make an appearance for the club. He was loaned out to go and resurrect his career amidst his dwindling fortunes at Etihad.
After consecutive loan spells with West Brom and Blackburn Rovers, Aderabioyo joined Fulham in 2020 on a four-year contract. He made 119 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 4 goals.
