The 19-time English first division champions released a statement confirming the change via the club’s official website.
They revealed the change through a club statement which reads: “Luis Diaz will take the No.7 jersey for Liverpool ahead of the 2023-24 season.
“The Colombia forward will switch from the No.23 shirt he has worn since arriving from FC Porto in January 2022 prior to the start of the new campaign”.
Liverpool also disclosed the lovely gesture by Luis Diaz to reimburse fans with a like-for-like exchange of his shirt.
They wrote: “Supporters who have already purchased the 2023-24 replica home jersey printed with the name ‘Luis Diaz’ and the number ’23’ on will be personally reimbursed by the attacker with a like-for-like exchange for a ‘Luis Diaz 7’ shirt.”
Additionally, it was revealed that any “Luis Diaz 23” jersey exchanged will be kept by the club and afterwards donated.
Liverpool stated: “Any ‘Luis Diaz 23’ shirts and kit exchanged will be retained by the club and donated to LFC Foundation”.
Diaz was also remarkable wearing jersey No 23, although this new number might presumably offer more pressure to him.
