Liverpool have been fined £25,000 by the English FA following the behavior they displayed in their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.
However, Luis Diaz’s goal was ruled out for offside and that controversial disallowed goal proved to be the real talking point from the match.
The Reds responded later that Sunday via a statement and accused the PGMOL of negligence and unnecessary failures.
Liverpool also stated that the failures resulted in ‘sporting integrity being undermined’, which Gary Neville described as ‘vague and aggressive’.
Futballnews understands that Liverpool is set to be fined as a result of receiving eight cards in the game which Spurs lost.
Under FA regulations, any Premier League club that gets booked 6 or more times or even a red card in a match, will be fined.
Also, assistant manager Peter Krawietz was in the books of the center referee following his statements in last weekend’s match.
As the financial penalty is automatic, Liverpool will not be able to charge nor get an answer as there will be no statement from the FA.
Liverpool received 7 cards – including two red – in the match, while hosts Tottenham only received five bookings in total, hence, they will not receive a fine.
However, Mac Allister will likely be fined too for comments on Christian Romero’s post where he wrote that Tottenham played with ’12 players’ including the referee.
The statement read: “Liverpool Football Club acknowledges PGMOL’s admission of their failures last night. It is clear that the correct application of the laws of the game did not occur, resulting in sporting integrity being undermine.
“We fully accept the pressures that match officials work under but these pressures are supposed to be alleviated, not exacerbated, by the existence and implementation of VAR.”
Liverpool added: “It is therefore unsatisfactory that sufficient time was not afforded to allow the correct decision to be made and that there was no subsequent intervention.”
“That such failings have already been categorized as ‘significant human error’ is also unacceptable. Any and all outcomes should be established only by the review and with full transparency.”
PGMOL admitted that Luis Diaz’s strike in the first half was incorrectly ruled out for offside after the Reds lost 2-1 to Spurs on Sunday.
In a statement, the refereeing body said: “PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool,’ the statement began.”
“The goal but Luis Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene.”
“PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error.”
“PGMOL will immediately be contacting Liverpool at the conclusion of the fixture to acknowledge the error.”
