Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) released a statement tendering apology to Liverpool after Luis Diaz’s goal was ruled out claiming it was due to ‘significant human error’.

However, this is not the first time that the PGMOL will be releasing a statement apologizing for an error.

Liverpool were the victim of the most recent error coming from the PGMOL in their blockbuster match against Tottenham.

Diaz saw his first-half strike ruled out for offside by the on-pitch officials and at the time Liverpool was a man down already.

The score at the time was still 0-0 and VAR failed to even review the goal after it was ruled out – they even failed to draw the offside line.

Following the error by the PGMOL, Liverpool lost 2-1 to Tottenham and the referring body admitted the decision was a “clear and obvious factual error.”

The refereeing body released a statement after the match, saying: “PGMOL acknowledges a significant human error occurred during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool.”

“The goal by Luis Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention. However, the VAR failed to intervene.”

“PGMOL will immediately be contacting Liverpool at the conclusion of the fixture to acknowledge the error.”

Futballnews understands that the lines were initially drawn, however, the VAR on the other hand thought the on-field officials already awarded a goal.

This led to a “check complete” and the goal being ruled out instead of telling the on-field officials that it was a goal and not offside.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, whose team finished the game without Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota as they were sent off, did not take it lightly with the PGMOL.

The German blasted the refereeing body and claimed that the decisions made by the officials were “unfair” and “crazy”.

Speaking on Diaz’s disallowed goal in a post-match interview. Klopp stated that: “That is not offside when you see it.”

“The ball is between Mo [Salah]’s legs, they drew the line wrong and didn’t judge the moment when Mo passed the ball right.”

The Liverpool coach was asked what he felt about the PGMOL apologizing for the error, he said: “Who does that help? We had that situation in the Man Utd game. Did Wolves get points for it?”

“We won’t get points for it. We all thought that when VAR came in it would make things easier.”

“The decision was made really quick for that decision. It changed the momentum of the game.”

The Reds manager also showed his displeasure for the sending off of midfielder Curtis Jones and said: “Curtis steps on the ball and goes over.”

“Not a bad tackle. It looks different in slow motion. He steps full throttle on the ball and goes over the ball. That is unlucky.”

    What Is PGMOL?

The Profesional Game Match Officials also known as PGMOL is responsible for match officiating in the English Premier League.
