Liverpool football club won the 2019-2020 Premier League title and ended the season 18 points more than second-placed Manchester City. This is the height they have reached and would want to maintain this season.
Though this will be tasking especially now that almost all the top 10 clubs in the league are busy fortifying their teams by signing new players, Jurgen Klopp might not stop thinking that he could do what Pep Guardiola did in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons where the Spanish tactician successfully won the league title twice in a row.
Recall that the confidence Liverpool started last season with was heavily tested in the second half of the season where they began to drop points consistently that if they had not garnered enough points before then, they would have lost the title to Manchester City.
Klopp would have this at the back of his mind as he set out to defend the league title. He and his boys started this mission on September 12 and they were almost stunned by newly-promoted Leeds United. After a hard fight, the match ended 4-3 in favor of Liverpool.
Their next Premier League encounter after Leeds’ test was against Chelsea which they won 2-0. And then hosted Arsenal on September 28 and it ended 3-1 in favor of the champions.
