Lionel Messi’s future remains undecided with the Argentina playmaker out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of this season.

Even if the 2022 World Cup hero does indeed leave PSG at the end of this season, it seems Messi won’t be returning to Camp Nou.

There has been speculation that the seven-time Ballon d’Or holder Messi could return to his former club Barcelona, and the Catalans fans have been impatiently looking forward to his return.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has also asserted on countless occasions that he would like Lionel Messi to return to Camp Nou.

But the football icon’s father Jorge has played down such expectations and revealed there has not been any negotiation between him and the club’s president Joan Laporta as regards that.

Jorge told Sport: “I don’t think Leo will play for Barca again.”

“The conditions are not met. We have not spoken with Laporta and there is no offer.”

The 35-year-old Argentine skipper has been in fine form for the Ligue 1 champions this season netting a total of 15 goals and providing 14 assists in 26 appearances in all competitions.

And despite his fine form for PSG, L’Equipe reports that the Argentine maestro is “less and less tempted” to remain in France which has prompted speculation that Messi could move to MLS or return to his former club Barcelona.

Meanwhile, the Ligue1 club has confirmed contract talks with Lionel Messi with the prospect of keeping the Argentine forward in the French capital.

According to reports, PSG is offering the 35-year-old former Barcelona forward an extra year on his contract.

However, the Parisians have also been warned by former France international star Jerome Rothen that extending 35-year-old Lionel Messi’s contract would be a “very bad idea.”

Messi’s future remains uncertain as there is still no contract extension agreement with PSG and the return to Barcelona appears impossible after the Argentine’s father has assured that his return to Camp Nou is not certain.

Meanwhile, Messi’s return to Barcelona is unlikely to happen not only because his father said so, but the club have serious problems with their finances, making it seemingly impossible to accommodate the PSG star.

The 35-year-old left Barcelona and signed for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021 after the Catalan club were unable to renew his deal because of La Liga’s financial fair play rules.

    What’s Next for Messi?
The Argentine and PSG superstar will be back in action on Saturday, February 18 in Ligue 1 against Lille.
