Lionel Messi posted a picture of himself holding the World Cup trophy on Instagram and it has surpassed an image of an egg as the most liked picture in history.
The picture of the egg received 56.1 million likes, Messi’s photo of himself hoisting the World Cup after Argentina defeated France in the World Cup final on Sunday has already surpassed it.
Following Argentina’s exciting penalty shootout victory over France, the PSG star uploaded ten photos to Instagram documenting the celebrations in Qatar.
Messi’s post has received close to 70 million likes since he posted it, and the striker has now amassed more than 402 million followers on social media.
Messi added a caption to the picture that read: “CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!!!! 🌎🏆”

However, with a stunning 519 million followers, Ronaldo continues to hold the title of Instagram’s most popular user.
He got 500 million followers on the social media networking platform for the first time ever in November 2022.
Messi trails the Portuguese star by a wide margin in terms of followers, and the two athletes are the only sportsmen in the top 10.
The remaining top ten performers are Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Dwayne Johnson, Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Khloe Kardashian, and Justin Bieber.
Chris Godfrey previously held the record for “likes,” uploading a picture of an egg in January 2019.
The goal was to surpass the Instagram post with the most likes at the time, a photo of Kylie Jenner’s daughter, which had 18.6 million likes. The posting ultimately received 56.1 million likes.
In October 2021, Ronaldo received 32.6 million likes on his post announcing the pregnancy of his partner Georgina Rodriguez, while Messi received 32.2 million likes on his post featuring Ronaldo.

Within a few days of its birth, it was a worldwide phenomenon and an internet meme.
It is currently the second-most liked Instagram post, and from late 2022 until December 20, 2022, when Lionel Messi’s post of him and his teammates celebrating Argentina’s World Cup victory over France eclipsed it, it was the most liked internet post ever.
The account’s owner was identified as advertising designer Chris Godfrey, who later collaborated with his two pals Alissa Khan-Whelan and CJ Brown on a Hulu advertisement that featured the egg and sought to promote mental health awareness.
