Leipzig are on the move to solidify their squad as they push to challenge Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title this summer.
In the quest to strengthen their squad and put Leipzig at the top above all other contenders of the 2022-2023 Bundesliga campaign, Bayern Munich especially, Leipzig are set to welcome Chelsea striker, Timo Werner and Benjamin Šeško from the Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.
Benjamin Šeško, born 31 May 2003 is a Slovenian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Austrian Bundesliga club Red Bull Salzburg and the Slovenia national team
Šeško joined Red Bull Salzburg at the age of 16 in 2019 from Domžale. He was loaned to the Salzburg’s reserve team FC Liefering for two seasons, where he scored 22 goals in 44 games in the second tier of Austrian football.
He made his first-team debut for Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021 and has gone on to win two Austrian Bundesliga titles and one Austrian Cup.
Šeško played 25 games for Slovenia at youth international level. He became the youngest ever player for the senior Slovenia national team when he made his debut in June 2021 at the age of 18 years and 1 day. He scored his first goal for the national team in October 2021, which made him Slovenia’s youngest ever goalscorer
Sesko gained attention having ended last season with 13 goals in the final seven matches of the Austrian Bundesliga season, and is set to have a leading role for Salzburg in the 2022-23 campaign.
The Slovenian was targeted by many European clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool in most parts of the 2022 summer transfer window.
Manchester United could have brought Sesko over to Old Trafford when he was very young in 2019 even at a low fee of £3 million but rejected the offer. However, Salzburg sets a price tag of about £50 million on him this summer putting Man United behind as they couldn’t afford him
Chelsea were also interested in Sesko, as it was reported that the forward’s representative met with Chelsea’s new owner and Sporting Director Todd Boehly in London last week.
However, his departure to Leipzig seems to be a reality even though RB Leipzig wanted Sesko this summer but Salzburg refuses to release him and agrees to set him for a move to RB Leipzig in 2023. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Leipzig is expected to welcome Sesko this season.
Also, Timo Werner is set to join his former club, RB Leipzig, from Chelsea this summer. Werner spent his career in the Bundesliga before coming to the Premier League in 2020.
The 26 years old German machine had spent four years at Leipzig before moving to London, scoring 95 goals in just 159 games.
Chelsea spent over €56,33 million to bring the German striker to the Premier League two seasons ago. Werner has only made 89 appearances for the London club since his arrival and scored 23 goals.
Leipzig and Chelsea, however, have agreed on a fee of around £25million including add-ons for the German forward Werner. Timo Werner is set to have RB Leipzig medicals this week ahead of his return to the Bundesliga club to join other Leipzig strikers like Christopher Nkunku, André Silva, Yussuf Poulsen, and Alexander Sörloth.
