Kylian Mbappe sent an emotional message to Jadon Sancho after Manchester United overcame Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley to win the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
Sancho entered the game in the 83rd minute to help Man United finish the match and win the second significant title of his young career.
Sancho, one of the most intriguing young players in Europe, has battled with consistency since leaving Borussia Dortmund for £73 million in July 2021.
Sancho did not participate in a Premier League match for nearly four months after being left out of England’s World Cup roster.
Beginning in February, he made a comeback, and on Sunday at Wembley, he was thrilled to help Manchester United end their trophy drought.
After the game, the England international uploaded a photo of himself and Rashford holding the Carabao Cup trophy while laughing and joking with Bruno Fernandes.
Sancho received praise from his colleague, especially Mbappe. In reference to the Manchester United star’s recent break, the France international commented, “Good to see you with the smile.”
Sancho, who progressed through Manchester City’s levels, became well-known after joining Dortmund in August 2017. In 104 Bundesliga games, the teenager went on to become a phenomenon in Germany, scoring 38 goals and dishing out 51 assists.
In May 2021, Sancho also triumphed in the DFB-Pokal, better known as the German Cup.
The agreement between Sancho’s representatives and Manchester United occurred just days after Sancho missed a penalty in the Euro 2020 final shootout loss to Italy.
Sancho struggled to make an impression during his first season at Old Trafford, so it’s unknown how well he bounced back from his Euro 2020 failure.
When Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League, Sancho managed just five goals throughout all competitions. When Ten Hag was hired as manager last summer, he initially had trouble getting the best performance out of Sancho, which prompted the Dutchman to take harsh measures.
Sancho was put on an individual program after being left out of the United team for their winter training camp in Spain. “He wasn’t fit enough to be there,” Ten Hag confirmed in December. “It’s a combination of physically and mentally.”
The winger will be hoping the Carabao Cup victory can be used as a launching pad for success after scoring twice in three Premier League games since his comeback. The next game for Manchester United is their FA Cup match against West Ham on Wednesday at Old Trafford.
Kylian Mbappe Always Wanted Sancho To Succeed
Three years ago, Jadon Sancho recounted what Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe told him when the two faced in the UEFA Champions League last-16.
Sancho helped Dortmund defeat PSG 2-1 in the 2019–20 Champions League semifinals, but PSG won 2-0 in Paris to advance on goal differential.
The England attacker, who was 19 at the time, was a great supporter of the 2018 FIFA World Cup champion despite the outcome.
“I spoke to him after the game,” Sancho told SoccerBible in 2020, following the release of his signature collection with Nike.
“We had a little conversation after the game, he said to me ‘you’re doing really well, keep it up and you’ll get far’. It was nice to have that conversation with him.”
“He’s done a lot when you consider his age. He’s won the World Cup, he’s won the league with PSG and Monaco and so you have to respect him in so many ways. He kind of carried France in the World Cup, which was crazy. Seeing someone that young doing great things like that, it motivates me and was crazy to see.”
