Kylian Mbappe led Paris Saint-Germain to a 7-0 victory over amateur team Pays de Cassel on Monday in the French Cup.
The victory set up a round-of-16 match against arch-rival Marseille.
Mbappé scored five goals, including a 12-minute hat trick in the first half – It was his first hat trick since France’s loss to Argentina in the World Cup final on December 18.
Mbappé now has 196 goals for PSG, four short of Edinson Cavani’s club record. He has scored 25 goals in 24 appearances this season.
The first PSG player to record five goals in a competitive game was Mbappe.
Kylian Mbappe said after the match smiling, that: “We came here to respect this team by playing at our level. That’s what we did and we’re very happy.”
“It was a great opportunity for them and also for us, because it’s a reminder for us that we come from amateur football and it’s important to keep this link. Even if it’s only for one game.”
Although he rested World Cup champion Lionel Messi for the match played at northern side Lens’ home stadium, PSG coach Christophe Galtier kept his word and selected a strong team that included World Cup top scorer Mbappé and Neymar.
Up until he received a warning in the 26th minute for a hasty late tackle, Neymar remained unnoticed.
Galtier was increasingly frustrated with his underperforming squad as Mbappé gave PSG the lead in the 29th minute after a cross from Nuno Mendes, gave PSG a record 14-time cup victory.
Before Mbappé scored with a lob and a deft chipped finish, Neymar scored PSG’s second goal with a deft attempt in the 33rd minute to the loud jeers of the fans.
After a mistake by the goalie allowed Mbappé to score his fourth in the 56th minute, Neymar set up Carlos Soler midway through the second half, and Mbappé finished from close range in the 78th. A late shot was blocked, preventing him from completing a double hat trick.
Since winning the final of its ten French Cups in 1989, Marseille has lost three finals, most recently to PSG in 2016.
Lyon will host Lille in a matchup between two teams from the same division on February 7-8.
On February 14, PSG will host Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 matchup.
