Katia Aveiro has shown her support for Cristiano Ronaldo and appeared to express her displeasure with Lionel Messi’s 8th Ballon d’Or victory.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister proceeded with a persistent defense of her younger sibling by commenting on a social media post that seemed to take a jab at Lionel Messi after his Ballon d’Or win on Monday, 30th of October.

What has happened to Lionel Messi?

The former FC Barcelona captain bagged a record-extending eight Ballon d’Or award at a Monday night event in Paris after he led his national team to a FIFA World Cup victory in November 2022 in Qatar.

The success saw Messi go three Ballon d’Or clear of his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who won his 5th Ballon d’Or in 2017.

The award has got many talking about the 36-year-old phenomenal success, others declared that the prize was a little more than a lifetime accomplishment trophy.

However, 46-year-old Katia Aveiro seemed to agree with the others as she commented on a social media post applauding the achievement of Cristiano Ronaldo shortly after the Monday night event in Paris.

The post on X ( formally called Twitter) showed the former Manchester United frontman surrendered by several personal awards including three UEFA Men’s Player of the Year awards, four European Golden Shoes, and five Ballon d’Or.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister liked the post and remarked with five clapping emojis, potentially in a nod to her brother’s own record or just to underline the level to which she supported the story.

Katia Aveiro acknowledged the image and took her time to put a caption that reads, “Earned, not given”, which appeared to be a jab at Lionel Messi who has claimed two prestigious prizes (World Cup & Ballon d’Or) in recent years.

It is not the first time the Portuguese pop singer has rolled into modern football lasting discussion. Her previous comment was during last year’s FIFA World Cup where she labeled the edition as the “worst ever” in a surprising post on social media.

She wrote: “The worst World Cup of all time”, before eventually praising the victorious South American national team.

She added; “That thankfully gave us a great final. What a match. Congratulations to Argentina”.

Aveiro had earlier advised Cristiano Ronaldo to abandon the World Cup and come home to a place where he has all the appreciation and not ingratitude due to his bump to Portugal’s bench during the global tournament.

What’s next for Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi?

Messi’s first match since winning the Ballon d’Or again will come later in November 2023 as Argentina prepares to face Uruguay and Brazil in World Cup qualifying games.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, will be in action with his Al-Nassr teammates on Saturday, 4th of November, when they lock horns against Al-Khaleej in the Saudi Pro League.
