    Jurrien Timber, Arsenal defender, has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury on his right knee and will undergo surgery.

    Recall we reported on July 14, 2023 that Arsenal signed the Netherlands defender from Ajax for a fee of £34 million.

    It has only been few days since he joined the Gunners before he got injured and will most likely be out for a long period.

    Timber, 22, limped off the pitch in the 50th minute of the Gunners’ 2-1 victory against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

    Arsenal released a statement in regards to the injury stating that the player “will be out of action for a period of time.”

    The club’s statement added, “The support and expertise from our medical team and everyone at the club will now be focussed on Jurrien’s rehabilitation programme, to ensure he recovers well and is back playing as soon as possible”.

    But the Gunners also confirmed that Jurrien Timber will receive every support he needs to ensure his quick recovery and return.

    Timber played his first match for Arsenal in the Community Shield against Manchester City which the Gunners won on Penalties.

    He started the season opener against Forest and was replaced by Takehiro Tomiyasu in the second half after he sustained an injury.

    Jurrien Timber played in 47 games for Ajax last season, including all six of their games in the Champions League group stage, and helped them win the Eredivisie title in 2021 and 2022.

    The Dutchman joined Ajax’s youth academy in 2014, from Feyenoord and made his first-team debut in March 2020 and has won two Eredivisie titles and one KNVB Cup.

    At the International level, Timber has made 29 appearances for the Netherlands at youth international level and he was a member of the under-17 team that won the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.

    The injured Arsenal defender also made his senior debut in June 2021 for the Netherlands.
