Chelsea legend and former Nigeria international John Obi Mikel revealed that he had always stayed away from his former teammate Diego Costa while they were playing for Chelsea.

In an interview with talkSPORT, the legendary midfielder revealed Costa always played the role of a mischief-maker and scared his teammates away with insane jokes in the locker room.

He further revealed Costa wouldn’t mind walking around naked in the dressing room and trying to flick the towel on his teammates playfully.

Obi added they always found Costa’s antics funny and uncannily scary as well, hence the decision by some, including him to keep their distance from the player in the locker room.

Costa had a great career with Chelsea after he joined the club from Atletico Madrid in 2014. He made 89 Premier League appearances, scoring 52 goals.

The prolific forward won the Premier League Player of The Month twice and led Chelsea to two Premier League titles in the 2014-15 season and the 2016-17 season. He also won the EFL Cup in 2015 to cap a prolific first season with the Blues, winning a double.

After three years with the club, Costa exited Stamford Bridge and returned to Atletico Madrid before moving homeward to South America. He however returned to the Premier League with Wolves in the 2022-23 season before heading back to South America. The evergreen striker is currently plying his trade with Gremio in Brazil’s elite division.

Mikel Obi, who played for Chelsea for 11 years, spent only a season (2016/2017 season) with Costa before leaving the club.

The 91-cap ex-Nigeria international won 3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 EFL Cups, one Community, a Champions League, and UEFA Super Cup.
