Manchester United legend, Garry Neville had couple weeks ago said Tottenham Hotspur won’t win the Premier League. He seemed to have changed his mind a bit, judging from how Jose Mourinho has been tinkering the team and getting results.
This has made the former England international to say it would be the most outstanding store to see the Portuguese tactician lift the Premier League title with the North London club, having experienced such success at Chelsea.
Neville, who is now a pundit with Sky Sport admitted that Mourinho has the attacking players at his disposal to win the title, but the former Manchester United defender is still not convinced they can do it.
Spurs temporarily moved to the top of the Premier League on Sunday for the first time since August 2014 courtesy of Hary Kane’s 88th-minute header to snatch a 1-0 victory at West Brom. Leicester City later leapfrogged them into top spot later after 1-0 win over Wolves at the King Power Stadium.
This left Spurs second heading into the international break. Such performance is building optimism at the club, putting them in the hunt for a serious title challenge, a first Premier League title and a first league championship since 1961.
Speaking via The Gary Neville Podcast, although he still has his doubts about their title credentials, Neville thinks it would be one of the great football stories if a resurgent Mourinho could lead Tottenham to the title.
“I said a couple of weeks ago on Monday Night Football that Spurs couldn’t win the league, and I still don’t think they can.
“But I do agree with Jamie Carragher that it would be the most outstanding story to see Jose Mourinho win the Premier League with Tottenham.
“I don’t think they can win the league, I really don’t, but because Jose Mourinho is there, there will be an element of thinking he can do the unthinkable.
“It would be something that would alarm Chelsea fans, Manchester United fans and Arsenal fans. It would be one of the great stories because Tottenham doesn’t win leagues!
“He’s got the forward players to do it. You think of the strike force and the goal – it’s incredible,” he added.
Can Mourinho prove Neville wrong by doing the unthinkable and win the Premier League for Tottenham?
With top-class talents at his disposal, Mourinho has the knack for inspiring such players to greatness. Didier Drogba will never forget the influence the former Chelsea boss had on him during his stint at the Stamford Bridge. Harry Kane seems to be towing the same path, as he continues to break records under the guidance of the Portuguese tactician.
Mourinho could be said to have been right saying his team could be champions in many European countries.
"We are a team and the boys are behaving like a team."

But looking at the way things are, each winner of the Premier League has been consistent. So, all it takes is for Mourinho to copy Leicester City’s model of consistency by winning the league.
But will they be able to do, with European football being a distraction?
Many pundits would be relishing the prospect of seeing Mourinho lifting the title with another club, that will be a good record to be the first manager to do so with two clubs in the English top flight.
This would make an outstanding story for the Portuguese, having been unable to lay his hands on it for the past five years.
Will he be able to do the unthinkable, let’s wait for it.
