In-form Inter Milan striker, Romelu Lukaku is likely to miss the Champions League clash against Real Madrid next week after sustaining a thigh injury.

This was contained in the announcement made by the Nerazzurri on their best player so far this season. This means that the Belgian striker is out of this weekend’s Serie A match with Parma after being involved in their goalless draw in the UEFA Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk in Kiev.

“Romelu Lukaku underwent an MRI scan at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano this morning following a problem that arose during Tuesday’s Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

“The scans showed that he has suffered a strain in his left thigh. His condition will be monitored daily,” a statement from the club reads.

Inter racing to have Lukaku fit for Real Madrid

It was gathered that the medical team of Inter are now looking for the best possible way to to have the lanky striker fit for their Champions League clash against Real Madrid next week.

Inter currently has two points from the two opening games in the group, while the Ukrainian champions top the log with four points after recording a shocking 3-2 victory against Madrid and their goalless affair against the Serie A giant.

According to reports, it is unknown the extent of the damage suffered by Lukaku. The race to have him back against Real Madrid in the Champions League is now on.

How important is lanky striker to Inter Milan?

Lukaku has scored in almost every game for Inter since joining the club last season from Manchester United. The Belgian has so far netted 5 goals in five Italian Serie A games with two goals also coming from two Champions League games.

In the Champions League Lukaku’s brace secured a 2-2 draw for Inter against Borussia Monchengladbach in the first round. This means he was quite literally the difference for his club again. His link-up play with Achraf Hakimi is already excellent.

With these stats on the back of over 30 goals last season, Lukaku means everything to Inter. They will therefore be looking forward to at least have him available against Madrid.

Coincidentally, his fellow countryman, Eden Hazard made his return back to action after struggling with several injuries since his move to the Galacticos from Chelsea. Both players will be glad to play against each other in the clash

Lukaku is no doubt Inter’s best-attacking player by some distance so far as he is more than a goal-scorer too.

The 27-year-old has 1.4 key passes per game and 2.0 dribbles completed per game in league competition, apart from being a poacher.

Meanwhile, his striking partner, Lautaro Martinez has been off form after being linked with Barcelona over the summer.

The Argentine in a recent interview after last week’s game at Genoa admitted to the poor form, with a promise of improvement.

As Inter fired blank against Shaktar, he will now have the opportunity to lead the line in the absence of Lukaku

It seems the speculation is still affecting the Argentine, whose last goal came against Lazio, three games ago need to up the ante for Antonio Conte this time around to prove his commitment to the club at least for the season. It is expected that either Real Madrid or Barcelona come for him.
