Jorge Mas, the co-founder of Major League Soccer club, Inter Miami, said the American club and other owners of the club are hopeful that Lionel Messi would join them in the future.

He claimed that if Lionel Messi leaves FC Barcelona for Inter Miami which is less than three seasons old in the MLS, such a move would complete Messi’s legacy in the game of soccer.

Recently, a report went viral that the record 6-time Ballon d’Or winner would sign a ten-year deal with FC Barcelona which would see him play in Spain for the next two seasons before the 33-year-old football icon moves to the United States to play for Inter Miami.

Though there is no official statement to back up the report, Jorge Mas has already stated the optimism of the club to have the iconic footballer at the club soonest.

He said the arrival of the Argentine footballer to Inter Miami is in line with the club’s desire to bring in the best players to the club which is currently sitting 11th in an MLS table comprising 14 clubs.

“I am optimistic Messi will play in an Inter Miami shirt because I think it will complete the legacy of the greatest player in our generation and will meet with the ambitions of the owners of Inter Miami to build a world-class team,” Mas told the Miami Herald.

Inter Miami is jointly owned by Marcelo Claure, Masayoshi Son, Jose Mas, and David Beckham but Beckham has been more or less the face of the club. With his influence, he has been able to convince European stars like Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain to join the club.

Jorge Mas said the recruitment of top football stars is just the beginning of what the co-owners of the club intend to do and if a player like Messi who is one of the most followed athletes in the world join the club, it would be a result of hard work.

“David and I have been working really hard, we have aspirations of bringing the best players here and Messi is a generational player, arguably the best player of all time,” Mas added.

If Messi finally signs the 10 years deal with Barcelona and obey the part of the deal which mandates him to join Inter Miami, he might be coached by Beckham’s ex-Manchester United team-mate Phil Neville.

As football fans across the world are waiting to see the outcome of what Barcelona are planning to do with Messi, the football icon is with Argentina trying to win the Copa America with his country.

He has until the end of June to extend his contract with Barcelona or end up as a free agent this summer which means he could join any club of his choice for free.
