Sheffield United‘s loanee Dean Henderson has told Manchester United that he can only extend his contract with the club if the club could guarantee him of being their first-choice goalkeeper.

The former England under-21 goalkeeper has been with Manchester United since 2011. He signed with the club when he was just 14-year-old but has found it impossible to establish himself in Old Trafford. He is always sent out on loan to various clubs because there is no space for him to compete for the number one position at United.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper who helped Sheffield United to gain promotion to the Premier League in the 2018-2019 season has been phenomenal this season, helping the club to remain 7th on the league table.

Also, so far this season, Dean Henderson has conceded only 28 goals in 30 Premier League matches and he kept 10 clean sheets making him one of the top goalkeepers in the league. His performance has attracted interests from a host of top clubs in the league including Chelsea football club and Jose Mourinho‘s Tottenham Hotspur.

The temptation before Dean Henderson

Though his current contract with Manchester United will expire in 2022, United has reportedly prepared an improved contract for the goalkeeper who is taunted to displace Jordan Pickford in the England senior national team at the forthcoming Euro.

As it stands, Henderson might be tempted to remain at Sheffield United at the end of the season or go to another club where is playing time is guaranteed if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not give him the opportunity to displace the club’s number one goalkeeper, David de Gea. However, that could be difficult to do despite the fact that the Spanish goalkeeper has been showing some lapses in recent times.

Barcelona devalues Philippe Coutinho’s market worth

Meanwhile, Barcelona football club has reportedly brought down the price tag formerly placed on Philippe Coutinho from £100 million to £63 million. The Brazilian midfielder who is currently on loan at German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich is out of favour at the Spanish club and the club priority is to get rid of him before next season.

Besides, the coronavirus pandemic has hugely affected the finances of clubs across Europe and having a player like Coutinho on Barcelona’s payroll is not good for business since he is no longer part of the club’s plan.

Coutinho and his agent Kia Joorabchian are yet to make their next move known but the 28-year-old Brazilian is linked with a move back to Liverpool where he joined Barcelona from in 2018. But such a move is not likely to happen because Liverpool would not want to spend £63 million amid the coronavirus pandemic to bring in a player that is not as reliable as the current crop of players in their disposal.
