England national team captain, Harry Kane says his club side, Tottenham Hotspur, has a great advantage to make it into the Champions Leagues spot since the club has the opportunity of concentrating on only the remaining 9 games in the league, unlike their competitors.

Tottenham Hotspur is currently occupying the 8th position on the league table with 41 points. Before the coronavirus pandemic halted football in March, the Jose Mourinho led team have already been knocked out of the Champions League and every other competition. Now they have no distractions as all the players of the club who were injured before the coronavirus pandemic like Harry Kane, are back and ready to go.

The same thing can not be said about the clubs ahead of Spurs which they can still overtake. Though all the clubs also have the full complement of their players, they are still in other competitions that can distract or stretch them beyond limits before the season officially ends.

For instance, 4th placed Chelsea football club that currently has 48 points, are still very much in the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup. They will visit German Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich to play the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. The German team defeated them in London 0-3 in the first leg.

While 5th placed Manchester United with 45 points, are still very much in the Europa League. They won their first leg of the Europa League round of 16 with a whopping 5 un-replied goals. They are also in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.

Also, 6th placed Wolves with 43 points are still in the Europa League round of 16. While 7th placed Sheffield United with 43 points are still in the FA Cup.

Though Manchester City are sitting comfortably in the 2nd position of the league table, they may not be in the next season UEFA Champions League if their two years ban by UEFA is not overturned by CAS when their appeal resumes hearing later this year.

If it is not overturned, the English FA will present clubs in the first, third, fourth and fifth spots on the league table for next season Champions League. Hence, if Tottenham can make it to at least the 5th position before the end of the season, they will be in a good position to take Manchester City’s slot if CAS does not overturn city’s UEFA ban.

“From our point of view we are not in any of the other competitions so we have got nine games to concentrate on picking up as many points and try and get into the Champions League spots”, Harry Kane told Sky Sports. “So at least all our focus is going to be in one competition.”
