Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, known mononymously as Shakira, has opined that she is free from the shackles of Gerard Pique, as her ex-partner was the architect of her downfall.
Pique and Shakira divorced in June 2022, after being together for 11 years, sharing two children, namely; Milan, a boy, born on January 22, 2013, in Barcelona.
They welcomed their second son, Sasha, on January 29, 2015, and their relationship appeared to be going smoothly.
However, the one-time duo, who appeared on Forbes’ “World’s Most Powerful Couples” list, shockingly broke up in 2022.
Anyway, speaking on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show”, Shakira revealed the reason why it took her many years to release a new album.
The new album is titled “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” and she indicated that the name reflects a change in social expectations for women.
She then lifted the lid on why the release of a new album stalled, stressing that her previous relationship with Gerard Pique dragged her down.
The 47-year-old touched on the seven-year gap between her latest album and her previous one, El Dorado.
The statements of Shakira on Gerard Pique dragging her down
She attributed it to her ex-husband, saying that being “husband-less” has offered her enough freedom to do her craft.
Shakira said: “I’ve been putting out music here and there, but I think it was really hard for me to put together a body of work. I didn’t have time. It was the husband factor.”
The Colombian singer didn’t mention Pique but many were quick to tell that she meant the Barcelona great.
Does Shakira’s hips lie?
She added: “Now I’m husband-less. The husband was dragging me down. Now I’m free! Now I can actually work!”
Additionally, during the show hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll put her hips through a lie detector test, joining the host, Fallon, and Drew Barrymore for a polygraph test to prove that her hips indeed don’t lie.
The hilarious segment had Fallon and Barrymore reading the signs of Shakira’s body through the machine’s sensors, which were placed on her hips.
The singer and songwriter was seen dancing to her hit song “Hips Don’t Lie”, while Jimmy Fallon was saddled with the responsibility of checking the sensors on the singer’s body.
Subsequently, Fallon asked Barrymore if the sensors were all “hooked up” and the response was affirmative.
Jimmy Fallon then told Shakira that “You know what to do”. She afterward began to move her hips to the song.
Following a dramatic examination, Barrymore said: “It checks out. They’re telling the truth.”, with Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll responding confidently, saying; “Told ya.”
The Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) crooner delineated her class once again by her appearance on the show.
She has over time shown her strength, resilience, and ability to soldier on amid challenges, and that has brought her immense success in the music industry.
Meanwhile, ex-partner Gerard Pique is currently dating Clara Chía Martí, a student of public relations, and the pair made their relationship official in January 2023.
