Manchester United completed the deal for Casemiro dramatically, to the surprise of pundits. The Red Devils opted for Casemiro after it was clear that the club may not make headway in pursuing Frenkie de Jong.
Since arriving at the Old Trafford club as the new manager, Erik Ten Hag has targeted the Barcelona midfielder. The Catalans had told de Jong point blank that if he wanted to stay at Camp Nou, he must have his wages slashed. Despite being a choice player for Xavi, Barcelona had wanted to offload the Dutchman to leverage a deepening debt crisis. Both Chelsea and Manchester United were ready to sign the midfielder. The Red Devils have already tabled a £72m bid for the player. Chelsea, led by Todd Boehly, was also ready to wrestle with Manchester United to sign the player.
Manchester United temporarily backed off the Frenkie de Jong deal to pursue another highly-rated midfielder, Casemiro. Casemiro’s negotiation took less than a week to be completed after the Red Devils tabled a whooping £60m bid plus £10m add-ons to Real Madrid for the Brazil international.
Casemiro was also shot into one of the top earners at Old Trafford with a weekly wage of £300,000. The highly-rated defensive midfielder told his teammates of his resolve to try a new challenge at Manchester United. He arrived at Old Trafford to a rousing and heroic welcome by jubilating Manchester United fans.
