Everton have reacted after been hit with a two-point deduction in another blow to the club’s Premier League survival hopes.
According to BBC, the two-point deduction followed fresh new charges slammed on the club in January 2024.
Recall the Toffees came under the sledgehammer of the Premier League for posing losses that breached the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
After a hearing with the investigative panel, they were hit with a 10-point deduction but it is was slashed to 6 points following an appeal.
They came under the radar of the Premier League again for a similar offense in the 2022/23 season in January 2024 , and were charged alongside Nottingham Forest, who were subsequently docked 4 points after being convicted by the panel.
It was evident Everton would not escape another point deduction after Nottingham Forest’s. Now, they have been hit with another point deduction in what could spell doom to their Premier League survival chances.
Before the second point deduction, the Toffees sat 15th on the table, relatively safe from the relegation zone with 29 points. Now, they have dropped to 16th with 27 points, two points away from the relegation zone.
Everton react to another point deduction
In a statement issued immediately after the confirmation of the point deduction, Everton acknowledged the decision of the Premier League Commission, and pledged their readiness to work with the Premier on PSR but expressed concern over the ‘inconsistency of different commissions in respect to points deduction applied.’
They also added they have begun the process to appeal the two-point deduction.”
“Everton remains committed to working collaboratively with the League on all matters relating to PSR but is extremely concerned by the inconsistency of different commissions in respect of points deductions applied.
“The Club and its legal representatives have begun the preparations to appeal the Commission’s decision,” the club statement reads.
