Erling Haaland is the 5th most expensive Premier League signing in 2022 and has kicked off his Premier League debut on a good note.

Erling Haaland Joins Manchester City

Erling Haaland fulfilled his childhood dream of playing for the blue side of Manchester as a Manchester City player to continue from where his father stopped. In 2022, the dream has come true.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker is in the blue stripes of Manchester City. An abysmal Community Shield performance against Liverpool has been shifted aside. The Norwegian goal machine has announced his arrival in the Premier League in style.

The Citizens’ opener against West Ham was on the stage. A debut brace that helped Pep Guardiola ease past a stubborn West Ham was enough. Haaland wasted no time to show that he is ready to replicate what he did in Bundesliga in the world’s toughest and most followed league. But do you know that Haaland is only the 5th most expensive Premier League signing in 2022?

Below is the list of five most expensive Premier league signings in 2022 and how they fared in their Premier League opener

Lisandro Martinez (48.5m, 8.5m add-ons)

Lisandro Martinez

After endorsing a massive purge and overhaul of the Man United team, new manager Erik Ten Hag needed more reinforcements in the team in the defense. Lisandro Martinez was a good candidate. The 24-year-old Argentine international was signed by Old Trafford for a fee of £48.5m plus add-ons amounting to £8.5m.

Lisandro Martinez struggled in his Premier League debut against Brighton. He has been slammed by pundits for poor performance which condemned Man United to a historic 2-1 loss to Brighton at Old Trafford.

Richarlison (£50m plus £10m add-ons)

Richarlison

Another top Premier League signing this summer is Richarlison who joined Antonio Conte’s Tottenham from Everton. The Merseyside club sold Richarlison to Tottenham for a fee of £50m plus £10m add-ons.

The Brazil international did not feature for Lilywhites in their Premier League opening win against Southampton. Richarlison is still serving last season’s FA ban for throwing a flare at the stands when Everton defeated Chelsea last season.

Marc Cucurella (£56m, £7m add-ons)

Marc Cucurella

In a dramatic and quick deal, Marc Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton after the Blues agreed a £56m deal plus £7m add-ons with the Seagulls. Cucurella came off the bench to feature for the Blues in the second half of the game against Everton. Thomas Tuchel admitted that Cucurella was impressive in his debut for the Blues. Chelsea ran away with a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton.

Darwin Nunez (£64m, £21m add-ons)

Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez joins Liverpool from Benfica in a deal worth £85m. Registering his presence right from the community shield match, Nunez continued in his fine form in his Premier League debut. Although the Reds settled for a disappointing 2-2 draw with Fulham, Darwin Nunez was spectacular. He stylishly flicked the ball into the net, before giving an assist to Mohamed Salah for an equalizer for the Reds, who were trailing Fulham 2-1. Darwin scored and registered an assist in his Premier League debut.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is only the 5th Premier League signing of the summer. He is one of the most promising new arrivals. Pep Guardiola signed the Norway international for a fee of £51m from Borussia Dortmund. Erling Haaland scored in his Manchester City debut in a pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich. Although he didn’t live up to his expectations in the community shield, his Premier League debut was a great success as he scored the two goals in City’s 2-0 victory against West Ham.

Despite coming out 5th on the list of Premier League new signings, Erling Haaland still holds a commanding rating over other new Premier League arrivals in their Premier League debut.

More great performances should be expected from the 22-year-old as the 2022-2022 Premier League progresses. What is your take?
