The manager of Borussia Dortmund, Edin Terzic, has insisted that the club’s highly-rated football star, Erling Haaland is still a very important player at the club. He also insisted that the 20-year-old Norwegian striker did not drop in form due to the transfer speculations related to him.
Erling Haaland has been a subject of transfer speculation since last summer until date even though he just joined Borussia Dortmund on January 1, 2020, from Red Bull Salzburg for a transfer fee worth €20 million.
Since he joined the club, the Norway international has scored 49 goals and provided 13 assists in 52 games. This season alone, Erling Haaland has scored 21 Bundesliga goals and provided 6 assists in 23 league games. He has scored 33 goals and provided 10 assists in 34 games in all competitions.
Due to these stats, some top clubs in Europe including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Chelsea are reportedly interested in the striker. Borussia Dortmund are reportedly not willing to sell the youngster this summer.
However, Erling Haaland would be available in the transfer market in 2022 because Borussia Dortmund inserted a clause in his contracts that permits him to leave the German club if an interested club can pay his release clause which is worth 75 million euros.
Amid the transfer speculation involving the youngster, Erling Haaland has found it difficult to continue scoring goals. He has not scored any goal in the last 6 games which is a course of concern to some fans of the club.
He is expected to help Borussia Dortmund to turn things around when the Bundesliga club face Manchester City in the second leg of the quarter-final stage of this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign.
Recall that Manchester City defeated Borussia Dortmund in the first leg 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium and Erling Haaland failed to come to the party. Football fans believe that transfer speculation is getting the best of him.
But Borussia Dortmund coach Terzic said: “Even if he hasn’t scored in these last matches he is an important, key player for us.
“He can cause difficulties for our opponents. As we saw in the last matches, especially in the second half against Stuttgart, he did a great job. It is important that he scores goals and he is the key player for us.”
On the fitness issues at Borussia Dortmund, the coach said: “There are a few slightly injured. We will have to wait. Marco Reus and Mats Hummels needed to be substituted and leave the pitch on Saturday.
“We have another training session and we will see who will be at our disposal.”
As at last check, Borussia Dortmund would face Manchester City tonight without the club’s versatile football star, Jadon Sancho. The England international missed the first leg due to fitness issues.
