Chelsea’s interest in Erling Haaland received a huge blow as his current club, Borussia Dortmund reportedly refused to accept the first official bid of the Premier League club.

It was earlier reported that Chelsea have officially made an offer to sign the 20-year-old prolific striker from the German Bundesliga club. The latest reports from Germany confirmed that Dortmund were not pleased with Chelsea’s bid.

In the said offer, the Premier League club intend to offer Borussia Dortmund Tammy Abraham or Callum Hudson-Odoi in part exchange for Haaland, but the Bundesliga side rejected it.

Dortmund are trying to hold on to Erling Haaland who has proven to be the best player at the club since he joined the German club on January 1, 2020, from Red Bull Salzburg for a transfer fee worth €20 million.

However, the club is willing to accept at least €175 million from Chelsea before they could allow the 20-year-old Norwegian striker to go. But Chelsea are not willing to pay such an amount on a single player. Hence, they decided to try a swap deal with Dortmund.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, it is looking impossible for the deal to scale through. This is because Dortmund just agree to sell one of the club’s key players, Jadon Sancho to Manchester United. Hence, it might be difficult for the club to allow their two key players to leave the club at the same period.

The biggest chance for Chelsea to get him cheaply is to wait until the summer of 2022. This is so because then, the £70 million release clause on the contract of Erling Haaland will be due.

If Chelsea are fast enough to cash in then, the prolific Norwegian striker would be a player of the London club. However, Chelsea are not the only club contending for the services of Haaland. Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Barcelona have shown interest in his services and the competition for his signature might be fiercer next summer if Chelsea are not able to get the football star this summer.

A source close to Haaland’s potential move to Chelsea told Sky Sports that the transfer deal looks impossible, not just because of the financial implication but because Dortmund just lost Sancho to United.

“Chelsea are trying but it is going to be very difficult. At the moment it looks like mission impossible”, the source said. “It is unlikely but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen.”

Aside from that, the football agent of Erling Haaland, Mino Raiola reportedly wants at least €40 million from any deal that takes the Norwegian striker away from Dortmund. Such an amount could serve as a big problem in the negotiation between any interested club and Dortmund.
