Aston Villa and Manchester United shared the spoils in a pulsating and combative affair at Villa Park.

It was a keenly contested affair at Villa Park, as both teams went neck and neck at each other in search of a favorable result.

Aston Villa Vs Manchester United

Manchester United had some chances to alter the scoreline, but an effort from Marcus Rashford in the 5th minute was punched away by goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Rashford also worked Martinez 3 minutes into the second period, but the Argentine goalie was equal to the task.

Bruno Fernandes saw his effort from a free-kick cannon off the crossbar, with Antony making a mess of the rebound.

Andre Onana also pulled off many impressive saves, palming away a magnificent attempt by Yuri Tielemans.

Additionally, Ollie Watkins played in Morgan Rogers at the edge of Manchester United’s box in the opening half, with the latter smashing a lovely curler towards goal, but his strike went off target.

Ezri Konsa And Harry Maguire Sustain Injury

The two teams are also sweating over the fitness of key players in their set-up, with Ezri Konsa being withdrawn for Aston Villa in the 12th minute due to a hamstring problem.

Diego Carlos came on to replace Konsa and the Brazilian put up an impressive display in the defensive department.

Moreover, Harry Maguire was also taken off at halftime after he sustained an injury late on in the first half.

Victor Lindelof was his replacement and the Swedish defender, who was making his first appearance this campaign, deputize well in Maguire’s absence.

What The Result Meant For Manchester United?

Having amassed just eight points (W2 D2 L3) this campaign, it is Manchester United’s lowest tally in their opening seven matches of a league season since 1989-90 (7), when they went on to finish 13th under Alex Ferguson – his lowest league finish in charge of the club.

With 8 points from 7 games, this is also Manchester United’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

The previous record stood at 9 points from 7 matches and interestingly, it was etched into history by Erik ten Hag, who also guided the club to this recent distasteful feat.

Anyway, it is uncertain if Manchester United’s hierarchy will pull the plug on Erik ten Hag in the coming weeks, as we head into the international break.

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Sir David Brailsford, CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox, and Sir Alex Ferguson were all at Villa Park to watch Man United vs. Aston Villa.

Erik ten Hag has enough time to restrategize and improve his lads ahead of their next league match against Brentford on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Aston Villa and Manchester United’s League Position And Their Next Match?

The Villans, who have now recorded back-to-back draws in the Premier League following the stalemate against the Red Devils, occupy the 5th spot on the log with 14 points from 7 matches, while Manchester United sit 14th on the table with just 8 points from 7 games.

Unai Emery’s side return to action on October 19, 2024, battling Fulham at Craven Cottage, while Erik ten Hag’s side play Brentford on the same day as aforementioned.
