The 2020-2021 English Premier League season has been on since September 12 and 98 league games have been played so far out of the season’s 380 EPL schedule. Recall that the Premier League was earlier scheduled to commence on August 8, 2020, but had to be postponed to September 12.
This season started about 7-weeks after the end of the 2019-2020 season which was prolonged due to the coronavirus pandemic that halted soccer in mid-March until June 2020. Recall that when football returned to the Premier League in June, clubs were forced to play behind closed doors to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
When the 2020-2021 Premier League season resumed, clubs were still forced to play behind closed doors since the coronavirus pandemic failed to stop spreading in the United Kingdom. However, recently, the government of the United Kingdom gave the go-ahead for the stadiums that fell under tier one and two in the country’s tiers system to start hosting 4000 and 2000 spectators respectively in line with social distancing protocol.
On December 3, Arsenal soccer club became the first Premier League club to host spectators when they played against an Austrian side, Rapid Vienna in a Europa League match that ended 4-1 in front of 2000 spectators at the Emirate Stadium.
So far in the 2020-2021 Premier League season which happened to be the 29th edition of a soccer league that was established in 1992, 290 goals have been scored in the 98 EPL schedule that has been played. Everton’s striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the highest goalscorer in the league with 10 goals as of December 4, 2020.
On the other hand, the EPL schedule that has seen the highest number of goals this soccer season is the game between Aston Villa and Liverpool. Villa humbled the reigning Premier League champions 7-2 on October 4, 2020. It is the season’s biggest home win and highest scoreline so far.
While Manchester United remain the first club this season to suffer a 1-6 defeat. The club suffered the humiliation on 4 October 2020 away to Tottenham Hotspur. The scoreline is the biggest away defeat so far this season.
Before things got rough for Aston Villa this season, the club enjoyed the longest winning run in the league (4 matches) same as Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. As the season gets thicker, Aston Villa and Everton dropped in form and dropped from the second and first spots to the 10th and 8th spots respectively.
As for Tottenham, the Jose Mourinho-led club is still enjoying the best of form as the club currently has the longest unbeaten run (9 matches) which has kept them in the first spot on the league table with 21 points in 10 league games. They are closely followed by Jurgen Kopp’s led Liverpool with the same points but inferior goals difference.
On the downside, Sheffield United are having it worst so far. In the 10 EPL schedule that they have played so far, they are yet to record any win. Hence, the bottom-placed team are currently enjoying the longest winless run (10 matches) and also the longest losing run (5 matches).
EPL Schedule
The EPL schedule came out on August 13, 2020, less than a month before the commencement of the 2020-2021 season. In the 380 EPL schedule, 98 league games have been played in which 79 of the EPL schedule ended in straight wins while 19 EPL schedule ended in draws.
The English Premier League is currently in its 10th week, except for clubs like Burnley, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Aston Villa that still have one outstanding match to play in their EPL schedule for this season.
Also, the league has assigned broadcasters for all the EPL schedule in December but the broadcasters will have to wait a bit longer before they can be informed about the matches they will broadcast before the EPL schedule for January starts rolling out.

How does the EPL schedule work?
The EPL Schedule is prepared for 20 clubs that are paired against one another to play in a home and away format until the season ends. At the end of the season, the club that garnered the highest number of points will be crowned champions of the Premier League.
This means that each of the 20 elite clubs will have the opportunity to play each club twice (home and away) in 38 weeks of Premier League football. In each game, a club has the potential to get three points per win and a point per draw.
If the first placed and second-placed clubs have the same number of points when the EPL schedule for this season has been exhausted, their goals difference will be used to determine the club that will be placed above the other. If they have the same number of points and goals difference, the head-to-head rule will be applied to determine the table toppers.
After each club has played 38 games, the clubs that finish in the top four automatically qualify for the subsequent season’s UEFA Champions League campaign. While the clubs that finish 5th, 6th, and 7th are entitled to represent the country in the UEFA Europa League.
On the other hand, every season, three clubs are expected to drop from the Premier League to the second tier of English soccer, the Championship. These three clubs are the clubs with the lowest number of points among the 20 elite clubs.
Once the three clubs are relegated, three clubs are expected to gain promotion to the Premier League from the Championship.
