Edinson Cavani has finally extended his contract with Manchester United after a series of back and forth between him and the club. The 34-year-old Uruguayan striker who joined the club on October 5, 2020, was tempted to leave the club due to irregular game time.

Recall that earlier in April, a report surfaced that the veteran striker who left Paris Saint Germain to join Manchester United for free wanted to move to Argentina to join Boca Junior. According to reports, it has always been the childhood dream of Cavani to play for the Argentine club.

However, he has been phenomenal for Manchester United that the coach of the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer never fail to sing his praises in the last few weeks.

When United scale through to the final of the Europa League by beating Roma 8-5 on aggregate, Solskjaer praised the Uruguayan striker who scored a total of four goals in the double-legged encounter.

Besides that, Edinson Cavani has managed to score 9 goals and provide 2 assists in 23 Premier League games mostly from the bench. He has scored a total of 15 goals and provided 5 assists in 35 games in all competitions.

After Edinson Cavani extended his contract with Manchester United from June 2021 to June 2022, the Uruguayan striker told the club’s website that he has developed a great affection for the club.

He went ahead to describe how the club kept him motivated and how he has developed a deep bond with his teammates and the club’s members of staff.

Cavani said: “I have developed a great affection for the club and everything that it represents.

“I feel a deep bond with my teammates and the staff who work behind the scenes…

They give me extra motivation every day and I know that together we can achieve special things.”

In his reaction after Cavani committed his future to Manchester United, Solskjaer said: “I said when Edinson signed that he would bring energy, power, and leadership to this group and I haven’t been proved wrong, he has been everything I thought he would be and more.

“As coaches, we knew about his goalscoring record, however, it is his personality that has brought so much to this squad, he has a winning mentality and has an unequivocal attitude to everything he does.

“Edinson is one of the last to leave the training ground and sets the tone for the upcoming youngsters with his approach to his profession every single day.

“I have always wanted him to stay and experience the way our fans will respond to him as a player, and this means he will hopefully get that opportunity.”
