Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo made his mother, Maria Dolores cried during the UEFA Nations League match between Portugal and Switzerland on Sunday, June 5, 2022.

On the said date, Switzerland visited Portugal for the UEFA Nations League Group A2 match which took place at José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon. During the game, 30-year-old defensive midfielder, William Carvalho scored the opener for the home team in the 15th minute.

While in the 35th minute of the game, it became Cristiano Ronaldo’s show as he stepped up to double the lead for Portugal. In the next four minutes of the game, the Manchester United forward scored his second goal of the match.

When Ronaldo was celebrating the goal he pointed to the stands where his mother, Maria Dolores was standing with some family members which means that he dedicated the goal to her.

Immediately afterward, Maria Dolores was seen crying like she saw her 37-year-old son score his first international goal even though the goal was Ronaldo’s 117th international goal.

The two goals helped Portugal to beat Switzerland 4-0 and helped the Portuguese side to top Nations League Group A2 with 4 points in 2 games.

It was not a surprise to see Maria Dolores so emotional about her son’s football career. She has been following the progress of Ronaldo’s career from day one.

Evidence has shown that Maria played a major role in ensuring that Ronaldo fulfilled his dream of being a professional football career. She and her late husband, José Dinis Aveiro stood by Ronaldo even though they were extremely poor then.

When Ronaldo won his first football award as a child, Maria Dolores who was a cook then, and the late José Dinis Aveiro were there to support the Portuguese football icon.

Unfortunately, José Dinis Aveiro who was a gardener was not alive to see Ronaldo fulfill his potential. But Maria has been there through thick and thin of Ronaldo’s career.

Despite being 37-year-old, Ronaldo is still waxing very strong in terms of scoring goals. Aside from helping his national team to win games, he was instrumental in helping Manchester United finish 6th in the Premier League last season.

Recall that in the 2021-2022 season, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored 24 goals and provided 3 assists in 39 games in all competitions for Manchester United. No player at Manchester United performed so well last season hence Ronaldo was named the best player of the season at United.

Aside from that, Ronaldo’s Premier League goal against Tottenham Hotspur was named Manchester United’s goal of the 2021-2022 season. His contract with the Premier League club will expire on June 30, 2023.
