Italy and Lazio forward Ciro Immobile was caught up in a fatal car crash near Lazio Olympic stadium.

According to Corriere dello sport, the 33-year-old Italian footballer was involved in a fatal auto crash on Sunday.

A tram reportedly beat the traffic signal and ran into Immobile’s car, smashing it into pieces.

The accident occured just few kilometers from Lazio’s Olympic stadium.

A version of the accident as captured by the tram driver blames Ciro Immobile for the accident.

The driver, as disclosed by Republica, said he moved after green traffic signal only for Immobile to sped up and crashed into the tram.

Immobile has now debunked the tram driver’s version of the incident. According to him, he “behaved correctly” and was not to be blamed for the accident.

His full translated statement posted on his Instagram Stories by his legal team, reads;

“The thoughts of my client Ciro Immobile, who is shaken over what happened today, go to his two daughters and to the driver of the tram, who he hopes will have a quick recovery.

”[He is] Relieved that nobody suffered serious injuries, aware in this moment that he behaved correctly, he has full trust in the authorities who are completing their investigation.”

Reports confirmed Immobile was with two of his daughters in the car and there were passengers in the tram.

There are no report of casualties and Immobile and his two daughters have not sustained any serious injury.

Italian authorities have reportedly begun investigations into the incident.

Born on 20 February, 1990 in Campania, Italy, Ciro Immobile is a professional football player who plays as a striker for Lazio in Serie A and Italy national team.

Immobile has a legendary football career grown and nurtured in Italy, where he is currently plying his trade.

He began his football journey in 2002 playing for Sorrento youth team before he joined Juventus Academy in 2008.

He made his first senior club appearance for Juventus in 2009. Immobile spent three years at Juventus and made just three appearances for the club.

He struggled for a starting berth and had spent most of his seasons with Juventus on loan spells.

He was loaned to three clubs, Siena, Grosseto, and Pescaea while at Juventus before Genoa signed him in 2012.

At Genoa, Ciro Immobile began to breath life into his career. He made 33 apearances and scored 5 goals before joining Torino just a year later.

At Torino, Immobile honed his attacking skills and was able to hurled in 22 goals in 33 appearances for the Serie A side.
