Nkunku received the end-of-season honor after winning the German top flight’s Player of the Month title a record four times in a single season (in October, February, March, and April).

Only former Bayern Munich talisman, Robert Lewandowski had more direct goal involvements last season (38) than the Frenchman, who scored 20 goals and dished out 13 assists in 34 league games, ahead of Robert Lewandowski, Erling Haaland, and Patrik Schick.

Only Karim Benzema (59), Kylian Mbappe (57), and Lewandowski (56) were involved in more goals than the Leipzig forward (50) in Europe’s top five divisions overall.

Leipzig’s goal-scoring prowess and creative ability enabled them finish fourth in the Bundesliga and led them to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, where they lost to Rangers.

Didier Deschamps kept an eye on Nkunku’s progress, as the 24-year-old made his France debut in a friendly match against Côte d’Ivoire in March 2022.

He’ll be hoping to get on the Les Bleus team as they prepare to defend their FIFA World Cup title in November and December in Qatar 2022.
